Plaza Door Signs... why?

LotFinder

The Plaza. Icon of opulence. Setting for many a movie... love that scene in North by Northwest (by the way, the building in the opening scene is now a Crate and Barrel...).

Anyway- um- I would love to own a piece of the Plaza. And they are graciously auctioning bits off at Christies. But- A collection of Ten brass Door Signs, including 2 Ice signs and 6 Service signs... Estimated at 200-300 dollars???? If you melt them down could you get that much? They are also auctioning off towels, and bathrobes, and other bits.

And of course furniture... but, when you think about it, it is very used furniture. Used hotel furniture. Granted- a president may has sat his ass on the coverlet, but, do you really want to own it?

I will check back in to see the selling prices on some of these lots after the auction in March. (on the Ides, no less...). Get your bids in!

Wheeee! I am (sorta) in business!

So- I finally decided to put some stuff up on cafepress.com. I mean- it's free... so any money made is just great... and it was very little effort... anyway. I am feeling that if one person wants one of my designs, I will feel validated.

So- please at least take a look... I have a few shops up right now (if I make any money at it, I will consolidate into one shop).

Chocolate Fondue Fountain - 30 Day Money Back Guarantee

Chocolate Fondue Fountain - 30 Day Money Back Guarantee

I love chocolate. But this thing makes me gag. The sight of it makes me retch. But the description... oh man....

"Dip strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, chunks of angel food cake – just let your imagination be your guide. Directions on how to adapt the fountain to use with cheese dip, barbeque sauce and other treats are included as well. You’ll use it and love it for every party."

Cheese. Flowing in a fountain.

I just see the possibilities for really disgusting double-dipping. And then the saliva-infused chocolate gets pumped back through the device, getting warmed to a nice, bacteria-growing temperature.... Oh barf.

If you plan to have one of these at your party, do not invite me. Spread the word. Friends don't let friends buy the Chocolate Fondue Fountain.

We shall Get Crafty no more...

Get Crafty

Alas- as of early this month, GetCrafty is no more. There is a link to another site where glitter resides, which I did check out. Supernaturale I clicked on the DIY Adulthood topics, which described itself as being for people trying to figure out what it means to be an adult. I was expecting some posts about being late 20's and still feeling too young to get married, have kids, or even think about it. Instead I found a lot of decidedly Mommy-centric posts. But- I think this used to be a forum about parenting. The jury is still out on this site. I'll keep ya posted.

UPDATE- I should have updated this long ago.... but Get Crafty is crafty again. It is filled with so much crafty goodness... and you can post a blog, or host pictures.... ack! it is so awesome. Check me out... http://www.getcrafty.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=4067

NASA - NASA TV Landing Page

NASA - NASA TV Landing Page

I watched them launch the rocket for the Deep Impact mission. Awesome. Totally awesome.

Does anyone remember when launching something into space was news???? I mean, they don;t even cover shuttle launches live on network tv anymore. Shame.

Ephemera NOW, goddamit!

Ok, I am obsessed with this site. http://www.ephemeranow.com/new.htm

I also got a book for Christmas called Yesterday's Tomorrow. It was a book based on an exhibit. http://www.yesterdaystomorrows.org/

Where are the silver jumpsuits and flying cars we were promised? Of course, I HAVE lived some of this.... like the homes of tomorrow. My Mom grew up in Levittown (the PA version) and I actually spent the first 10 years of my life livng in a geodesic dome. Seriously. I am not kidding. And if I had tons of money, I would live in a Neutra house.

Ok, so why am I so obsessed with the past... Well, not sure I am. Perhaps it is more that those visions of our future were so creative and optimistic. I just enjoy looking at them. Reality today is so stark and serious. I would like to inject some more retro-kitch into my life. It can't hurt...

Face THIS

Face The Issue

I would just like to point out that Fox aired a PSA for this website during an episoe of The Swan. Enough said.
